Bed packing / plants-per-bed by spacing
Enter bed length × width (or total sq ft), path/edge waste, packing style, and pick 1–6 crops with typical in-row × between-row spacing (inches). You get usable sq ft after waste, an honest floor plant count per crop, and an overcrowd warning if footprints exceed usable area.
Calm framing: spacing charts are planning aids, not promises. Tomatoes want airflow. Squash sprawls. Balcony trays are not the same math as a raised bed. Numbers are soft suburban packing ranges — not a CAD layout.
Bed size
Along the bed — usually the longer side.
Reachable width — often 3–4 ft for raised beds.
Subtracts from gross area before plant math.
Planted bed surface only — not the whole lawn.
Same waste dial — synced with length×width mode.
Packing style, space & intent
Intensive = footprint ÷ equal area share. Row = plants-per-row × rows when a single crop fills the bed.
